Red carpet : the 2016 Oscar Nominees Luncheon

More than 150 nominees attended the annual event, including 15 of the 20 acting nominees

In the midst of one of the most brutally competitive Oscar races ever, more than 150 Academy Award nominees got to be friendly and collegial for a few hours on Monday. The event was the annual Oscar Nominees Luncheon, an awards-season tradition at which all the nominees meet, are told to keep their acceptance speeches short, pose for a “class photo” and then pick up their certificates of nomination and some Academy swag — official nominee sweatshirts in the past, knit Oscar caps these days.

Let’s take a look at the best dressed stars at the 2016 Oscar Nominees Luncheon:

Eddie Redmayne – who has been nominated for the Best Actor gong for a second consecutive year – looked every inch the dapper gent, as he went for a sartorially classic look in a two-piece modern-fit suit

Leonardo DiCaprio looked his usual red-carpet dapper self in a dark suit with polka dot tie. He is one of the favorites this year as his work in The Revenant has won raves

Mark Ruffalo, who has been given props for his turn in Spotlight, wore a grey suit with black shoes;

Matt Damon chucked the tie for a less formal look; his grey suit and white shirt made him look rather nondescript as he posed on the red carpet. The star is nomination for Best Actor for his work in The Martian.
