INTERNATIONAL celebrities have joined Australia’s brightest stars on the red carpet for the annual AACTA International Awards in Los Angeles.
While James Packer and fiance Mariah Carey were a no show (they were recovering from the G’Day LA gala in Hollywood last night) an impressive line-up of directors, actors and film folk turned outfor the event held at the historic Avalon Hollywood in Los Angeles.
Actors Abbie Cornish, Miranda Otto, Jonathan LaPaglia, Radha Mitchell, Luke Bracey, Joel Edgerton and Bindi Irwin were among those who attended the star studded event
Once hosts Rachel Griffiths and Daniel MacPherson welcomed attendees, official proceedings kicked off with George Miller making history by taking home two AACTA Awards for Best Film and Best Direction for his flick Mad Max: Fury Road.
“This year marks the first time we’ve seen an Australian film, Mad Max: Fury Road, win at our domestic awards in Sydney and then again at our international awards in LA,” AACTA CEO, Damian Trewhella, said.
Another big winner for the night was Cate Blanchett, whose newest film Carol also received two gongs after Rooney Mara took home the award for Best Supporting Actress, and Blanchett won Best Lead Actress.
Best Lead Actor went to Leonardo DiCaprio for The Revenant, after he beat out Matt Damon who received a nomination for The Martian and Steve Carell who was recognised for his role in The Big Short.
