Red carpet : Lionel Messi & FC Barcelona Win Big At Globe Soccer Awards

The Blaugrana and Lionel Messi were the big winners in Dubai, while a career achievement award was given to Andrea Pirlo and Nicola Rizzoli was nominated for Best Referee

Lionel Messi took home Best Player of 2015 at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, while Barcelona collected several honours after their great campaign.

In a surprise turn of events, the Barça boy decided to keep it classy with a black suit for the ceremony .

The annual ceremony began in 2010 and takes place in Dubai on December 27 and 28 this year, with several of world football’s biggest names attending the festivities.

Previous winners of the Best Player award include Radamel Falcao, Cristiano Ronaldo and Franck Ribery but it was Messi who took home honours this year, beating out Real Madrid’s Portuguese star and Juventus’ Gianluigi Buffon.

Last year’s treble and 2015 Club World Cup winners Barcelona also picked up awards for Best Club, Best Media Attraction and Best President.

Italian football did gain some silverware, though, with former Juventus man Andrea Pirlo being handed a Player Career Award along with Frank Lampard.

Other categories included Best Coach, won by Belgium boss Marc Wilmots, and Best Agent, this year given to Jorge Mendes.

Last year’s Best Referee winner, Italian Rizzoli, was nominated once again this year, but fell short to Ravshan Irmatov, who took charge of the Asian Champions League final second leg
