Red carpet : Matthew McConaughey at the 29th annual American Cinematheque Award

Reese Witherspoon was honored with the American Cinematheque Award at a star-studded event Friday night at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.

“I really thought if I worked hard and did my very, very best, one day I could get Matthew McConaughey to come on a big public stage and say really nice things about me,” she joked. “I actually think that’s pretty much every Southern woman’s dream.”

McConaughey, who starred with Witherspoon in Mud, was the final presenter of the night, giving Witherspoon her award.

“The roles you were the most passionate about are the ones that resonate the most today,” said McConaughey of Witherspoon pointing towards her work in Legally Blonde, ElectionWild and Walk the Line (for which she won an Oscar).

McConaughey, who was honored with the award last year, added: “When you get restless you create a way. You make it happen.”

Matthew McConaughey showed it was only temporary when he attended the American Cinematheque Awards in Los Angeles on Friday evening.

The 45-year-old actor has balanced out the hair which is growing back by getting a buzzcut all over, which he debuted in its fully glory.

He cut a dapper figure in a three-piece charcoal suit, with perfectly polished dress shoes.

The Wolf Of Wall Street star added a blue silk tie to the neck of his pristine white shirt.

Earlier this month he took a razor to his head for his role in Gold, where he’s portraying struggling businessman Kenny Wells who teams up with a geologist to search for gold in the jungles of Indonesia.

His transformation in the biographical AIDS drama earned him an Oscar.

The film due out next year also stars Edgar Ramirez, Bryce Dallas Howard and Joshua Harto.

Matthew also has altered his appearance on set with a prosthetic beak nose and false teeth.

He looked delighted to run into his co-star from Dallas Buyers Club, Jennifer Garner, as they attended the event where Reese Witherspoon was presented with an award.
